Guess who is the rogue seller

As more businesses become FBA sellers, the number of rogue sellers also increases. These individuals or groups use deceptive tactics to sell products as unauthorized third party merchants, or counterfeit products. They are not only harming customers who lose their money, but also devastating brand value from legit retailers who have to invest time and resources to stop these sellers.

They can be difficult to identify, but there are certain signs you can look for to help you determine whether a seller is legitimate or not, and help your favorite brand to improve their performance and maintain their reputation:

Check the seller’s ratings and reviews

One of the first things you should do when considering buying from a seller on an online marketplace is to check their ratings and reviews. Most marketplaces have a rating system that allows buyers to rate their experience with a seller. If a seller has a high rating and positive reviews, it’s more likely that they are legitimate. However, if a seller has a low rating and negative reviews, it’s a warning sign that they may be a rogue seller.

Look for inconsistent or vague product descriptions

Rogue sellers often use vague or inconsistent product descriptions to sell their products. If the description of the product seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of sellers who use language that is overly promotional or makes unrealistic claims about the product.

Beware of unusually low prices

Rogue sellers often offer products at unusually low prices to attract buyers. However, these low prices may be a sign that the product is fake or counterfeit. Before making a purchase, do some research to determine the average price for the product you are interested in. If the seller’s price is significantly lower than the average, it may be a warning sign that they are a rogue seller.

Check the seller’s contact information

Legitimate sellers usually provide clear contact information, including a phone number and email address. Rogue sellers may not provide this information, or they may provide fake contact information. If a seller does not provide clear contact information, it may be a warning sign that they are a rogue seller.

Identifying rogue sellers on online marketplaces can be challenging, but by following these tips, you can protect yourself from falling victim to their scam, ensure that you are getting the product you paid for, and help legitimate brands keep their businesses going!
